Years ago I read a book by Vera Brittain, Testament of Youth, a wartime memoir detailing the profoundly devastating loss of so many young men during WWI. After Ohio lost twenty of its soldiers in a brief span of time in the summer of 2005, I re-read the book to find that the message resonates even more deeply in 2012.

The two poems by M.W. Cannan (1893-1973) that accompany this piece say so much that I cannot myself express. This piece is a memorial to the twenty young Ohio soldiers lost to two attacks in Iraq in the summer of 2005.
