An piece of antique Japanese silk crepe is the focus of this piece that also incorporates vintage silk and hand dyed cottons. The image is of the fire brigade's lantern, banner, picks and ladders that are carried to the scene of the fire. Coincidentally, many of the firemen in Japan were also employed as carpenters ( in a country where dwellings were constructed of wood). Machine- and hand-quilted, the work is embellished with beads and sequins.
