Fiber Artist creating wall-hung quilts and dolls
My interest in fiber began when I learned at an early age to sew doll clothes and clothing. This interest continued and expanded with the discovery of quiltmaking in the early seventies. Having graduated in painting and art education from San Jose State University in California, quiltmaking and fiber seemed to me to be an ideal medium. It satisfied needs from painting in order to use color and imagery, an interesting format to work in that allows for periods of contemplation and a continued satisfaction that grew out of my very positive early childhood experience. Though I do not consider myself a traditional quiltmaker, the medium does allow me to present my thoughts, ideas and interests in a visual way that satisfies my needs of expression.
